High blood pressure being a condition whereby the heart pumps blood faster than normal {simply put} is a common thing among the elderly in the United States of America. This is so serious a situation that can aggravate to a more terrible situation if nothing is done so quickly. Many cases of stroke, heart attack, heart disease, heart failure and kidney failure among others stem from high blood pressure. By now, you should immediately begin to see reasons why you need to finds ways to lower your blood pressure, if they are high.
The force at which the blood is pushed through the arteries is known as blood pressure, if this then becomes heavier or faster than normal, it is called HBP.
It is therefore pivotal for Elderly citizens to understand and know the meaning of HBP and how to prevent or manage it. It is also good if they know the lifestyles that trigger high blood pressure and thos that help them lower it.
It has been discovered that high blood pressure is more common among black America or African Americans. One in about four Adults in America at one point in their lifes or the other will battle with HBP. It has also been found that many young people nowadays also present with cases of High blood pressure.
It is very important to note that everyone should on a regular basis, check their blood pressure to ascertain their BP. By doing this one will be in firm control of what happens in the region, so it wont be to late if there is need for urgent help or attention.
High blood pressure has been found to be both hereditary and lifestyle. Hereditary, in the sense that some people are more predisposed to having it than others. If it is in their lineage, your mother has it, or father has, or you could trace it down the line in your lineage, you are more predisposed to having it.
It is also a lifestyle disease in the sense that If you are overweight or obese, you are at a higher risk for developing HBP. Being overweight is defined as having extra body weight from muscle, bone, fat, and/or water; obesity is defined as having a high amount of extra body fat.
Thus, guiding against obesity, is guiding against hypertension. The more you try to keep agood body weight, the less likely you are to having hypertension.
Other risk factors that can lead to hypertension are.
- Excessive alcohol consumption
- Too much of sodium consumption
- Insufficient potassium intake
- Smoking
- Lack of body activity(exercises)
