A Thanksgiving Wish Heard Worldwide

This has been a tumultuous year as we struggle to deal with a global pandemic. Now, in the U.S., we have been working through a difficult election.
The Carter Center. Waging Peace. Fighting Disease. Building Hope.
YOUR GIFT HELPS END CONFLICT »
Dear Good,

This has been a tumultuous year as we struggle to deal with a global pandemic. Now, in the U.S., we have been working through a difficult election.

Even as I pray for my country, I know that many parts of the world face violence and upheaval each day. They often turn to The Carter Center for help because, thanks to supporters like you, Good, The Carter Center is one of the few international organizations trusted by all sides to broker agreements and verify elections.

The Syrian brother and sister in this photo live in a refugee camp in Turkey. They have known violence, fear, and upheaval their entire lives. We work for a better future for them, and your support helps to make that possible. The Carter Center is working for reform, economic recovery, reconstruction, and the return of refugees.
Next week, we will celebrate Thanksgiving, and we’ll take note of the blessings in our lives. It is a tradition that reinforces the need to be grateful. My hope is that next year, these children and so many others will be grateful for peace and safety.

At The Carter Center, we talk about Waging Peace. Working for peace is difficult and full of risk. It takes commitment and resources. It’s often a painful struggle. The good news is that the victory is one in which everyone wins. Everyone’s children win.

YOUR GIFT HELPS WAGE PEACE »

Even as we continue to deal with the pandemic and election, we can’t forget those who live in fear. Your gift today will help The Carter Center wage peace on behalf of the world’s most threatened and vulnerable people. At this special time of year, please do what you can to help others find the blessings of peace.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Carter
Co-Founder and Trustee
The Carter Center

P.S. Your gift today helps create peace and safety for millions around the world. Please donate now. Thank you!

One Last Push to End Guinea Worm

I wish you could have been with me a few years ago when I met a little girl named Ruhama in Ghana.
The Carter Center. Waging Peace. Fighting Disease. Building Hope.
WE’RE SO CLOSE.
YOUR GIFT HELPS END THIS DISEASE FOREVER »
Dear Good,

I wish you could have been with me a few years ago when I met a little girl named Ruhama in Ghana. The Carter Center was helping local people treat the last remaining cases of Guinea worm disease — a scourge that has plagued mankind for millennia.

I was trying to amuse and distract 6-year-old Ruhama as a health worker gently removed a 3-foot-long Guinea worm from the poor child’s leg. I was only partly successful because the process is excruciating.

But there is good news. First, Ruhama recovered completely. Thank you for that. Second, Ruhama was one of the last children in Ghana to be infected with Guinea worms! The World Health Organization certified Ghana to be Guinea worm free in 2015! This is amazing.

MAKE THE WORLD
A BETTER, SAFER PLACE »
THIS IS HOW YOU’RE HELPING FINISH OFF GUINEA WORM
Your generosity today means Carter Center-trained health care volunteers will continue to have the resources to travel to even the most remote villages, teaching how Guinea worm spreads, how to keep away from contaminated water sources, and how to use pipe filters to avoid infection. And it means our staff and community volunteers can locate and track every last case and care for sufferers until Guinea worm is no more.
In 1986, an estimated 3.5 million people suffered from Guinea worm disease. Last year, there were fewer than 60 cases, and we are on target this year for fewer than 40. Only Chad, Ethiopia, Mali, South Sudan, and Angola have reported any cases at all.

If we make a final push now, someday very soon, someone will be the last one treated for Guinea worm disease in the history of the world! Will you help us make this happen?

Sincerely,

Jimmy Carter
Co-Founder and Trustee
The Carter Center

P.S. We’re so close to making a world where no one suffers 3-foot-long Guinea worms as Ruhama did. Your generosity will help end this disease forever, and it will empower people with so many other tools to improve their lives. Thank you!

Dear Good,

After observing elections for over 30 years, The Carter Center has turned its attention to the United States for the first time. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted how Americans vote, leading to more early and mail-in votes than ever before. And just as voting this year looks a little different, so will getting to the final results.

With your support, we can help instill peace and civility during a time of uncertainty. Please download our toolkit with graphics, videos, and suggested text that you can share on social media.
