For millions around the world, this basic right remains something to be cherished, even if it means waiting a lifetime and then standing for hours in line to vote. It’s that important. And it’s the foundation on which every aspect of an accountable democracy must be built.
My trip underlined that we must never take fair elections for granted, and it also spotlighted another thing we’ll never take for granted — your support. Because it is partners like you who make all our successes possible.
Freedom from Guinea worm or other preventable diseases. Government transparency and ready access to information. Justice and legal systems that are available to all. All of the Carter Center’s efforts to accomplish these and other goals depend on the support of dedicated partners like you.
