We need your help to go into 2017 strong — waging peace and fighting disease.
Dear Good, This is your last chance to make a tax-deductible gift before the year ends. We need your help to go into 2017 strong — waging peace and fighting disease. | Children in Liberia welcome Carter Center staff. At the end of Liberia's civil war in 2003, The Carter Center affirmed its long-standing commitment to the people of Liberia and joined them to help rebuild their country and consolidate the peace. When Liberia's Ebola epidemic struck in 2014-15, the Center shifted its focus and resources to address the crisis at hand and provide long-term aftercare. | Preventable disease and suffering still cripple hundreds of thousands of lives each year, and the forces of hatred and violence still make freedom a distant dream in too many places. What’s more, it's clear that violence — whether in Syria, South Sudan, the Philippines, or anywhere in our world — is not confined to professional armies. In every conflict, uncounted innocent civilians perish from stray (or deliberate) bullets, bombs, land mines, and deprivation of food and medical care. The toll extends beyond the pain of immediate victims; conflicts tend to spread and threaten other parts of our world as well. Support like yours has helped us save millions of families from disease and bring peace and democracy to regions at great risk from oppression and conflict. Like me, Good, I know you have a deep concern for the current condition of this world and its future. Your support will bring us one step closer to making this a safer, freer place in which to live. Thank you for giving the gift of peace. Happy New Year, Jimmy Carter Co-Founder and Trustee The Carter Center P.S. To qualify as a 2016 charitable contribution, your online donation must be made by midnight Central Time, Dec. 31, 2016. | | In FY2014-15, 95% of our spending went directly to our peace and health programs. | | | | We appreciate the opportunity to communicate with you.
