Soon Guinea worm disease will be the first human illness since smallpox to be completely eradicated from the earth. But we need your help today to win this fight. Dear Good, Soon Guinea worm disease will be the first human illness since smallpox to be completely eradicated from the earth. But we need your help today to win this fight. Guinea worm disease preys upon the world’s most vulnerable people, causing them severe pain and disability. It incapacitates individuals for extended periods of time, making them unable to care for themselves, work, grow food for their families, or attend school. See how your support can save people from Guinea worm disease. Before the world can be certified as Guinea-worm free, the four remaining endemic countries — Chad, Ethiopia, Mali, and South Sudan, reporting just 22 cases in 2015 — must go three years with zero cases. Field staff and thousands of volunteers must remain vigilant, ready to track down and investigate leads on suspected cases to prevent new outbreaks. That is where you come in. Your support will continue community-based interventions to educate people and change behavior. Residents will be reminded to purify drinking water with pipe filters and cloth filters. They will learn how to report on and contain outbreaks to prevent recontamination of their water sources. Trained personnel will care for those few individuals, unlucky enough to have the final cases, while the worm exits their bodies. Please act now. We can end the agony and despair caused by this disease, once and for all. Rosalynn and I thank you for your partnership in this important work. Sincerely, Jimmy Carter Co-Founder and Trustee The Carter Center P.S. Your support will help end Guinea worm disease, and the village-based health delivery systems the campaign has established in thousands of communities will prevent other diseases as well. With your help, millions of women, children and men will no longer suffer from the pain of Guinea worm and other preventable diseases. Children can return to school and adults can return to work, improving their lives forever. | | In FY2014-15, 95% of our spending went directly to our peace and health programs. | | | | We appreciate the opportunity to communicate with you. Voting in fair elections is easy to take for granted. Most of us have been doing it all our adult lives. But not everyone is as fortunate, and my trip to Myanmar to co-lead the Carter Center’s election team showed how blessed we really are. Dear Good, Voting in fair elections is easy to take for granted. Most of us have been doing it all our adult lives. But not everyone is as fortunate, and my trip to Myanmar to co-lead the Carter Center’s election team showed how blessed we really are. Please watch this short video to see the powerful transformation that thousands of caring and compassionate people like you are helping make possible. For millions around the world, this basic right remains something to be cherished, even if it means waiting a lifetime and then standing for hours in line to vote. It’s that important. And it’s the foundation on which every aspect of an accountable democracy must be built. My trip underlined that we must never take fair elections for granted, and it also spotlighted another thing we’ll never take for granted — your support. Because it is partners like you who make all our successes possible. Freedom from Guinea worm or other preventable diseases. Government transparency and ready access to information. Justice and legal systems that are available to all. All of the Carter Center’s efforts to accomplish these and other goals depend on the support of dedicated partners like you. You can help us complete our three-decade mission to end Guinea worm disease, so no one will have to suffer its agonies again .... You can save the eyesight of people who could otherwise only watch in fear as trachoma or river blindness erases their world .... And you can help give millions what you have enjoyed for so long — the right to vote in free elections. These are what allow a democracy to mature into the kind of truly inclusive society in which people can not only live, but hope. Please help sustain our efforts to bring peace, health, and hope to millions of people worldwide by making your most generous, tax-deductible gift today. Thank you!
