Dear Good, Today, in celebration of World Human Rights Day, please help us continue the fight for dignity, freedom, and justice for the world’s most marginalized and neglected people. Thousands of generous donors just like you support Carter Center human rights efforts that span across the globe and touch millions of lives. We're making enormous progress, but there are so many people who still need our help. I'm haunted by such realities as a young girl denied her childhood and forced into marriage, a little boy sent to work in the mines instead of to school, women denied basic legal rights like property inheritance, and adults who are denied the chance to elect those in power and shape their own futures. By making a gift now, you will help transform the lives of children, women, and men who suffer daily from oppression and the threat of violent repercussions. These are regular people, just like you and me, who desire an education, a livelihood to support their families, and a peaceful existence, but they face obstacles beyond their control. It is only through the intervention of caring individuals like you that The Carter Center can help put an end to the injustices inflicted upon these people. Your gift, Good, will have a worldwide impact: You will help support the annual Human Rights Defenders Forum at The Carter Center where hundreds of courageous and effective human rights activists gather to share experiences and gain strength to continue the struggle for human rights and dignity. You will help end child marriage, female genital mutilation, and other abuses against women through our Mobilizing Faith for Women and Girls Initiative, which galvanizes religious leaders to leverage their belief systems to promote equal protection and opportunities. You will help people — especially impoverished women — in Guatemala, Liberia, and Bangladesh improve government transparency and accountability as well as attain new educational and employment opportunities with Carter Center training on how to access public information. You will help the Human Rights House in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, provide training and technical support to 154 nonprofit partner organizations whose primary aim is ending human rights violations and violent conflict. With the Carter Center’s assistance, accountability and transparency were improved in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's industrial mining sector — resulting in government decrees on mining transparency, greater disclosure of mining contracts and tax revenues, and compensation for local communities impacted by mining operations. You will help poor rural Liberians gain access to legal recourse, building community-sustained legal counseling services to resolve wrongs suffered during the 14-year civil war — and prevent those injustices from sparking new conflict. Please act today — help bring others the basic human rights and civil liberties we ourselves enjoy. Thank you for being the special person the world needs now. Sincerely,
Jimmy Carter Co-Founder and Trustee The Carter Center
P.S. Because The Carter Center is guided by a commitment to action and measurable results, and we will never duplicate the effective efforts of other organizations, you can be assured your gift today will have the biggest impact possible. So, please be as generous as you can for the sake of the millions of children, women, and men whose lives are controlled by others who do not care about their survival or well-being.
