Changes to YouTube’s Terms of Service

You're receiving this email because we're updating the YouTube Terms of Service ("Terms") to clarify our terms and provide transparency to our users. The Terms were similarly updated in the United States in November 2020. These changes shouldn't significantly alter your access or use of the YouTube service.

A summary of the changes:

  • Facial recognition restrictions: The Terms of Service already state that you cannot collect any information that might identify a person without their permission. While this has always included facial recognition information, the new Terms make that explicitly clear.
  • YouTube's right to monetize: YouTube has the right to monetize all content on the platform and ads may appear on videos from channels not in the YouTube Partner Program.
  • Royalty payments and tax withholding: For creators entitled to revenue payments, such payments will be treated as royalties from a U.S. tax perspective and Google will withhold taxes where required by law.

Please make sure you read the updates to the Terms carefully. The new Terms will take effect on June 1, 2021 for users outside the U.S. By continuing to use YouTube after this date, you are agreeing to the new Terms. Please note, if you allow your child to use YouTube Kids, then you are agreeing to the new Terms on behalf of your child as well.

Reminder to send a gift for Mother's Day

Your gift will help people like Antoinette Sainfabe.
This Mother's Day, honor your mom with a special gift.
Dear Good,
Mother’s Day is May 9, and you can honor the special women in your life with a unique gift that will bring hope to the world's poorest and most neglected people. Now, for a limited time, you can send a special e-card with one of my original paintings.

Mother's Day eCard
Your Gift Will Help People Like Antoinette Sainfabe

Antoinette Sainfabe of Haiti has been through a lot – a devastating earthquake, homelessness, long-term illness – but a support group convened by The Carter Center helps her keep her head held high.

Antoinette contracted lymphatic filariasis (LF) from the bites of infected mosquitoes. Despite her troubles, the first thing people notice about Sainfabe is not her swollen legs, it’s her signature smile, which she generously shares, especially with the Hope Club, part of the Carter Center-supported Hispaniola Initiative, a joint effort by the governments of Haiti and the Dominican Republic to eliminate both LF and malaria on their shared home island.

In 1993, the disease caused Antoinette’s legs to swell irreversibly to almost twice their normal size, which makes it hard to walk, to get and keep a job, and to avoid being stigmatized. It’s practically impossible to find shoes that fit, so she, like the other women in the Hope Club, improvises with strips of Velcro to extend her sandal straps.

Antoinette’s advice to other LF sufferers is to resist discouragement, avoid isolation, and see beauty in themselves.

“See me as I am,” she said. “I am living.”

Life is hard in Haiti, with poverty, natural disasters, and troubled political history. Add to the mix a tropical disease that causes permanent disfigurement, and the result can be misery.

Please make a gift now to end the suffering of people like Antoinette. »

With your tribute gift, The Carter Center can address some of the world's most difficult problems, going where no one else will and taking on challenges few others will. You will help bring families, communities, and nations sustainable solutions to end suffering from disease, conflict, and human rights abuses.

Thank you for making this Mother's Day extra special for the important women in your life and for the grateful people you will have touched with your kindness.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Carter
