Dear Good, In America alone, one in four individuals may suffer from mental illness in any given year. It’s a pervasive issue yet millions don’t seek help. They may fear discrimination at work, rejection by loved ones, or indifference from health care providers.
My wife, Rosalynn, has dedicated the last 40 years of her life to reducing stigma against those with mental illnesses here in the United States and around the world. Under her leadership, The Carter Center has helped to promote awareness about mental health issues, inform public policy, and achieve equity for mental health care comparable to other health care.
Yet discrimination and lack of care are still terrible problems. In the infographic above, we invite you to see how The Carter Center works to solve these issues.
Rosalynn and The Carter Center need your help now to continue this important outreach and give millions of individuals with mental illnesses a chance to lead full and productive lives. Thank you, Good, for joining Rosalynn and the Carter Center staff as they work to alleviate the suffering of those in need. With sincere gratitude, P.S. Tomorrow, Nov. 20, marks the 30th anniversary of the Rosalynn Carter Symposium on Mental Health Policy. You can tune in for the live webcast at 1 p.m. EST. As you’ll see in the webcast, it’s imperative that we seek solutions for those who suffer from mental illness. Rosalynn and I thank you for supporting this critical program. | | In FY2012-13, 92.4% of our spending went directly to those in need. | | | We appreciate the opportunity to communicate with you.
